To be the best team in the world, be it in sports or business, inter-team competition is a must.

Healthy competition amongst members enables each individual to really achieve the best out of themselves. Competing with a team mate on a daily/weekly/monthly basis can really keep you on top of your game for the 'main' competition against the real opposition.  However, too much competition can negatively impact cohesion if things turn into 'every man for himself'. And so it is important to establish the right balance.

In rowing you are constantly compared with others in the squad, and ultimately you  have to compete against your mates for a seat in a boat. Its a tough process for all individuals involved. I feel that having such fierce competition in training is what makes the Great Britain Rowing Team so dominating on the international rowing stage.
